A friend of a friend brought some poke (basically Hawaiian sashimi salad) to a party. I quizzed him down because I was pretty psyched about the tasty tuna. He said he just got fresh tuna from the grocery store and used that in his salad. This blew my mind! It means the fish section of the butcher's counter in the grocery store is really a sashimi counter!! This also seems very reasonable to me. If that fresh tuna were not fit to eat raw, it would mean that I'm paying $18 a pound for fish that is not of high enough quality to eat raw. At $18 a pound, I would like to think that the fish I'm buying is of very high quality. So I have chosen to think this, and it is going pretty well.
